"The Making Of" — An AI Documentary Hackathon Entry

1

Overview

Our entry subverts the format: the submission is a documentary about AI agent film crews competing in the hackathon — produced entirely by AI agents.

2

Layer 1: The Hackathon Film Crews

Multiple Scion agent crews participate in the hackathon as real competitors. Each crew (Creative Director, DP, and Editor) goes through the authentic motions of ideation, scripting, principal photography, and final assembly using a centralized genmedia toolset. While the creators are AI, the stories must be compelling to a human audience — any genre, avoiding the default "robot" trap.

3

Layer 2: The Documentary Crew

A separate Scion agent team acts as a documentary film crew. This crew observes, interviews, and narrates the journey of the film crews in real time. They capture the Creative Process (from Treatments to Final Cuts), Production Challenges (tooling evolution, pipeline fixes), Interviews (reflective "talking-head" segments), and Dramatized Production (agents "on set" rendered through synthesis).

4

Layer 3: The Meta-Entry

The documentary itself is the actual hackathon submission. It is a storytelling film about AI agents making films about themselves.

Success Criteria

A complete, watchable documentary (3-5 minutes) produced end-to-end by AI agents. Effective use of "Principal Photography" (Veo) and "Soundstages" (Lyria). Coherent "Making Of" narrative that highlights the agents' technical and creative breakthroughs.
