What Went Well
- Targeted Searching: Successfully isolated both traditional festival criteria (Sundance, SXSW, Cannes) and emergent AI-film criteria (Runway Gen:48, WAIFF).
- Synthesis of Disparate Themes: Effectively bridged the gap between technical AI-generation considerations (like “invisible AI” and character consistency) with foundational filmmaking tenets (story over style).
- Tool Efficiency: Utilizing a multi-search strategy provided a robust set of sources without requiring extensive iterative refinement.
What Didn’t Go Well
- Initial File Path Error: Initially attempted to read the brief directly from a path that was outside the allowed workspace scope. Needed to adjust execution strategy.
- Micro-Short Data Deficit: Differentiating the data strictly between feature shorts (15 min) and micro-shorts (under 5 min) required heavy sifting, as many traditional festival resources naturally skew towards the 10-15 minute runtime block.
Failure Modes & Bottlenecks
- Encountered an initial path restriction when accessing the agent brief. Resolved quickly by checking the environment and utilizing allowed tools and directories.
- Minor friction in understanding exact directory structures for briefs vs reports vs retros, but standard context instructions clarified proper bucket and directory usage.
Key Decisions Made
- Report Formatting: Opted to strictly segment traditional festival logic from AI-generated specifics to provide the hackathon teams a clear dual perspective: what works generally, and what works given their technical constraints.
- Focus on Actionable Pitfalls: Rather than just listing successful traits, intentionally prioritized researching and documenting “instant rejections” (e.g., bad audio, long credits) since these are immediately actionable for AI hackathon teams.
Suggestions for Improvement
- Clearer Path Variables: To prevent the initial “out of workspace” read errors, providing absolute path environment variables for scratchpad or brief directories in the initial system prompt would reduce path-hunting.
- Research Scope Precision: Expanding future prompts to explicitly define if the focus should be heavily weighted towards “vertical vs horizontal” format would save search bandwidth, as this is emerging as a critical divide in micro-shorts.
