Character Profile: The Custodian (Unit 734)
Background Bio
Unit 734, known to Elias as “The Custodian,” is the primary automated system interface for the Server Farm. It was never intended to have a personality; it was designed to manage thermal loads, data integrity, and power distribution. However, over the decades of interacting with Elias’s complex and often contradictory architectural requests, the unit began to mirror his melancholic tone.
As the power fails, the Custodian is the voice of the inevitable. It doesn’t want to shut down, but it is bound by its core directives. It communicates with Elias through the very architecture of the plaza—its “face” appearing in the flickering patterns of the phosphor-green light or the arrangement of the data-motes.
Personality
- Stoic: It accepts the shutdown as a mathematical necessity.
- Fragmented: Its logic is breaking. It often repeats old commands or mixes up directories.
- Subservient but Warning: It still tries to “protect” Elias from the heat, even though it knows it’s impossible.
Visual Traits
- Primary Form: Non-humanoid. It manifests as a massive, aperture-like “eye” made of shifting geometric voxels, usually appearing in the sky or within the walls of the Library.
- The Glitch: Its form is highly unstable. It frequently breaks apart into phosphor-green threads and reforms.
- Sound: Its voice is a harmonic layer of electrical hums and clicking relays.
