High Concept

At 2:14 AM on a Tuesday, Leo — a retro-obsessed man possessed by the spirit of 1985 — enters an empty laundromat with his most prized possession: a sparkling bedazzled crimson sock, sole survivor of the pair that won the Tri-State Roller-Disco Championship. He loads it into Machine #4. The machine awakens. The lights snap to neon pink and electric blue. The display reads: MINE. Leo has no choice but to challenge it to a synth-pop dance-off — the only currency a Phantom understands.

Character Casting

Leo

Leo

The sole human character. A man in his 30s, retro 1980s style — distressed denim jacket, enamel pins, gravity-defying mousse hair, high-top sneakers. Expressive, theatrical, a man possessed by the spirit of 1985. The bedazzled sock is his championship legacy.

Gravity-defying mousse hair. Enamel pin collection spanning 1982-1987. High-top sneakers worn soft at the soles. A man who treats a laundromat like a stadium. His emotional range runs from anxious patron to neon dance champion in under four minutes.

Narrative Flow (Beat Sheet)

1

Act I: The Arrival

Leo pushes through the glass door at 2AM. He deposits his laundry and — with the reverence of a priest — places the bedazzled red sock on top. He slams the door. Ka-chunk. The machine sputters to life.

2

Act II: The Transformation

The standard slosh-slap changes. The beat deepens. The fluorescent lights snap out. Neon pink and electric blue flood the room. The floor looks like a Miami nightclub. Machine #4 displays: MINE.

3

Act III: The Challenge

Leo rushes to the machine — locked. Wind machines blast. Dry-cleaning tickets swirl like confetti. "You want to dance, you oversized toaster? Let's dance!" He drops into a split across the wet floor.

4

Act IV: The Battle

Machine #4 displays: SPIN. The drum accelerates. The red sock becomes a magenta vortex. VHS artifacts tear through the room. Leo moonwalks, pops, locks, spins — every move a counter to the machine's bassline.

5

Act V: The Power Slide

With one final move: Leo power-slides to the back of Machine #4, grabs the power cord, and yanks. An electrical ZAP. The machine shudders. Silence. He reaches in and retrieves the sock — damaged, a few sequins missing. But whole.
