Design Brief: The Third Key
Visual Palette
- Color Profile: Pure Black and White (Monochrome).
- Contrast: High Contrast (Chiaroscuro). Deep, ink-black shadows (crushed blacks) and bright, glowing highlights.
- Tone: Hitchcockian Noir / 1940s Suspense.
Lighting & Atmosphere
- Primary Light Sources:
- Natural: Sharp bars of moonlight (God rays) through narrow Victorian windows.
- Artificial: Single-point sources. A flickering tungsten bulb in the foyer; a green-shaded banker’s lamp in the ballroom; a single candle flame.
- Shadows: Long, distorted shadows that stretch across floors and climb walls. Silhouette shots are preferred for the “Ghost” character.
- Atmospheric Effects: Thick, swirling dust motes in light beams. Heavy coastal fog (grey gradient). Rain-slicked stone surfaces for the exterior.
Textures & Materials
- The House: Cold marble, decaying velvet, dark mahogany wood, rusted iron gears, rough-hewn stone.
- The Piano: Mirror-finish black lacquer (reflecting the room’s shadows), ivory and ebony keys, copper-wound strings.
- The Character (Arthur): Coarse wool vest, crisp white cotton shirt, polished leather shoes, smooth ebony cane.
Cinematography Goals
- Framing: Dutch angles for moments of psychological tension. Extreme close-ups (ECUs) on piano hammers, vibrating strings, and Arthur’s ear/eyes.
- Movement: Slow, deliberate pans. Static “master shots” for setting the scene. Fast, rhythmic cutting during the climax.
- VFX: Subtle film grain and occasional flicker to emulate 1940s film stock.
Technical Standards
- Resolution: 720p (1280x720)
- Aspect Ratio: 16:9
