Scene List Technical Review — nu-techlead
Step 2 Generatability Audit
CRITICAL: Runtime Shortfall
Planned durations total: 130 seconds (2:10). Target is 3:00–5:00.
| Shot | Duration |
|---|---|
| 1.1 | 10s |
| 1.2 | 8s |
| 1.3 | 6s |
| 2.1 | 12s |
| 2.2 | 8s |
| 3.1 | 10s |
| 3.2 | 6s |
| 3.3 | 6s |
| 4.1 | 8s |
| 4.2 | 8s |
| 4.3 | 10s |
| 5.1 | 8s |
| 5.2 | 10s |
| 5.3 | 8s |
| 5.4 | 12s |
| 5.5 | 8s |
| TOTAL | 130s (2:10) |
We need 50–70 more seconds. The overhang principle (2s pre-roll + 2s post-roll per shot) is for raw generation — the planned durations define the final cut, which is what matters for runtime.
Recommended additions to reach 3:00+:
- Expand Phase III (Dance-Off) — this is the musical peak and the most visually dynamic section. Add 3–4 more shots here:
- ECU of Leo’s feet during moonwalk (6s) [SILENT]
- Low-angle shot of Machine #4 bucking violently (6s) [SILENT]
- Leo’s second dialogue beat: “It’s dry-clean only in spirit!” (6s) [DIALOGUE]
- VHS artifact distortion wide shot during synth solo (8s) [VO] with narrator bridging
- Expand Phase IV (Resolution) — currently very compressed. The wind-down from the musical arc doc needs screen time:
- Machine drum audibly slowing/wind-down beat (6s) [SILENT] — per editor’s Phase I note
- Leo brushing off lint, composing himself (6s) [SILENT]
- Leo pressing the sock to his chest, eyes closed (6s) [VO] with soft narrator coda
This adds ~44s, bringing total to ~174s (2:54). With the existing shots getting minor duration bumps where dialogue/VO demands it, we should land at 3:00–3:30.
Reference Budget Audit — ALL PASS ✅
| Shot | Ref 1 | Ref 2 | Ref 3 | Count | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.1 | Setting: Night | — | — | 1/3 | ✅ |
| 1.2 | Leo sheet | Setting: Night | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 1.3 | Object: Sock | Setting: Night | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 2.1 | Leo sheet | Setting: Night | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 2.2 | Leo sheet | Setting: Night | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 3.1 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 3.2 | Setting: Neon | Object: Sock | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 3.3 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 4.1 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 4.2 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 4.3 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 5.1 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 5.2 | Leo sheet | Setting: Neon | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
| 5.3 | Setting: Night | — | — | 1/3 | ✅ |
| 5.4 | Leo sheet | Object: Sock | Setting: Night | 3/3 | ✅ |
| 5.5 | Leo sheet | Setting: Night | — | 2/3 | ✅ |
No shots exceed the 3-reference Veo limit. Shot 5.4 is at the cap (Leo + Sock + Setting).
VO-Safe Compliance — 4 SHOTS NEED ANNOTATION
Shots tagged [VO] with Leo on screen MUST explicitly enforce VO-safe motion direction (mouth closed, no speaking verbs). The following shots need this annotation added:
| Shot | Issue | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 3.1 | Action: “Leo takes off headphones, realizing the beat is in the room” — Leo is on screen during narrator VO. | Add: “Leo’s mouth remains closed; expression of confusion/wonder, NOT speaking.” |
| 4.1 | Action: “dramatic reaction” — could be interpreted as exclamation. | Add: “Leo reacts with wide eyes and body language only, mouth closed.” |
| 5.1 | Action: “Leo realizes he must pull the plug” — Leo on screen during VO. | Add: “Leo’s expression shifts to determination; jaw clenched, no speaking.” |
| 5.5 | Action: “Leo walks out” — Leo on screen during narrator coda. | Add: “Leo walks silently, head held high, mouth closed. No speaking.” |
Without these annotations, my motion prompts risk triggering lip movement during narrator VO, creating visual-audio conflict.
Vocal Classification Audit — ALL CORRECT ✅
All 16 shots have proper vocal tags. SEQUENCED shots correctly separate VO and dialogue timings with non-overlapping windows.
Traversability Risk Assessment
| Risk | Shots | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| LOW | 1.1, 1.3, 2.2, 3.2, 4.1, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 | Static/minimal camera, single-axis motion |
| MODERATE | 1.2, 2.1, 3.1, 3.3, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1 | Camera movement + character action, but manageable |
| HIGH | 5.2 | Power-slide hero shot: ground-level tracking + sprint + slide + reaching for cord. Budget 2–3 takes. Consider splitting into 2 shots if Veo struggles. |
Safety Filter Pre-Check — ALL CLEAR ✅
No content in any shot approaches safety filter boundaries. Laundromat, socks, dancing, washing machine. Zero risk.
Machine #4 Anti-Anthropomorphism Check
Shots featuring Machine #4 (3.2, 4.1, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3): None describe the machine with human features. The machine’s personality is conveyed through lighting, vibration, display text, and sound. This is correct — I will enforce the negative prompt (no eyes, no face, no limbs, inanimate, literal washing machine, no anthropomorphism) on all machine-visible shots during Steps 4 and 5.
Summary

Action required from nu-idea: (1) Add ~50s of shots to reach 3:00 minimum. (2) Add VO-safe motion annotations to shots 3.1, 4.1, 5.1, 5.5.
