Omicron Team — "The Cardboard Standoff"

Step 2.5: Object Anchoring — The Cardboard Standoff

Recurring Objects Identified

These objects appear across multiple shots and require dedicated reference images to prevent visual drift:

1. Cardboard Sun (CRITICAL — 4 shots)

Appears in: Shot 1 (background), Shot 12 (falls), Shot 31 (falls again), Shot 32 (on ground)
Description: Ragged circle of bright yellow construction paper, masking tape visible on back.
Consistency risk: HIGH — this is a key narrative prop that physically moves. Must look the same in wide and close-up.
Reference needed: ✅ YES — Generate a standalone reference image of the sun (front and back showing tape).

2. Masking Tape Tumbleweed (2 shots)

Appears in: Shot 1, Shot 32
Description: Crumpled ball of masking tape, beige/off-white.
Consistency risk: LOW — amorphous shape is forgiving.
Reference needed: ❌ NO — too formless to benefit from a reference sheet.

3. Paper Plate Clock (1 shot, but prominent)

Appears in: Shot 10
Description: Paper plate on the bank building with crayon numbers, cardboard hand/arrow.
Consistency risk: LOW — single shot.
Reference needed: ❌ NO — appears only once.

4. Toilet Paper Roll Water Trough (2 shots)

Appears in: Shot 1 (background), Shot 14 (knocked over by hand)
Description: Half a toilet paper roll, brown cardboard.
Consistency risk: LOW — small background prop.
Reference needed: ❌ NO — background detail.

5. Human Hand / “The Puppet Master” (4 shots)

Appears in: Shot 13, Shot 14, Shot 22, Shot 23
Description: Oversized, fleshy human hand descending from above frame.
Consistency risk: MEDIUM — should look like the same hand each time.
Reference needed: ⚠️ RECOMMENDED — Generate one reference image showing the hand reaching into frame from above.
Note: This is a real human hand in a cardboard world. It should NOT look like cardboard. Prompt must explicitly say “realistic human hand” to contrast with the diorama aesthetic.

Veo Reference Budget Plan (Updated)

Per the design_brief.md, Veo allows max 3 reference images per shot. The Tech Lead’s current plan:

Constraint: The Cardboard Sun and Human Hand need references but we’re at budget. Options:

  1. Bake the sun into the Dustville Diorama setting reference (it’s part of the sky — include it in the master setting image).
  2. For hand shots (13, 14, 22, 23): These shots don’t need both character refs (characters are background/absent). Use: Slot 1 = Setting, Slot 2 = Human Hand, Slot 3 = (character if present).

Recommendation for Tech Lead: Ensure the Dustville Diorama reference includes the yellow sun prominently in the sky. Generate a separate Human Hand reference for the 4 “divine intervention” shots.
