Characters
Two characters, one conversation. 10 total reference images. A divorcing couple at the end of the line.
Mark Evans
Mid-40s. Nostalgic, emotionally open. Faded mustard corduroy jacket. Tired eyes with warmth. The sentimentalist who weaponizes memory.
Sarah Evans
Mid-40s. Precise, guarded. Dark wool trench coat like armor. Military-precise dark hair. Stirs black coffee with a silver spoon. The pragmatist who feels more than she shows.
Location References
Three settings: the diner booth at night and at dawn, and the rain-soaked exterior.
Diner Booth (Night)
The red vinyl booth, warm tungsten light, Formica table. Where they had their first date. Where they sign the papers.
Diner Booth (Dawn)
The same booth as morning light replaces neon. Softer, quieter — the world after the storm.
Diner Exterior
The Starlight Diner in the rain — neon sign bleeding into wet asphalt. Edward Hopper meets Wong Kar-wai.
Storyboard
Start/End frame pairs for all 25 shots across 4 musical movements.
Movement I: Allegretto (The Polite Arrival)
Wide exterior — the Starlight Diner in the pouring rain. Neon sign bleeds into asphalt puddles.
Neon blue "OPEN 24 HOURS" sign flickers through a rain-streaked window. Steam from a coffee cup.
Sarah stands inside the door, shaking water from her dark wool coat. Rigid posture. She scans the room.
Mark sits in the red vinyl booth, staring out the window, shredding a paper napkin into confetti.
Sarah slides into the booth. She places the manila envelope on the table. Mark looks up with a forced smile.
Betty pours black coffee. Cherry pie arrives between them, two forks. The silence is deafening.
Mark mentions the Mozart piece from their first date. Sarah stirs her black coffee (clink, clink, clink).
Movement II: Accelerando (The Unraveling)
Close-up of Sarah's hand gripping the coffee mug. The argument about the house in Vermont they never bought.
Mark reminds her of dancing barefoot in their kitchen at 2am. She accuses him of weaponizing nostalgia.
The conversation accelerates. Cross-cutting close-ups as old wounds collide — career, indecision, fear.
Sarah's composure shatters. "You didn't fight for us, Mark." The coffee mug trembles.
Mark leans back. Silence. Rain hammers the window. The jukebox changes songs.
Mark's voice drops. "I was terrified. Of being enough." Sarah looks away, jaw tight.
Movement III: Adagio (The Reckoning)
Wide shot of the booth. Two people, miles apart across a Formica table. The rain softens.
Sarah admits she misses who they were. Close-up of her face, the armor cracking.
Mark's hand moves across the table. Their fingers almost touch. The most tender beat.
Slow, aching conversation. They name what they lost. Not blame — just grief.
A faded photograph tucked into the booth's vinyl. Mark found it. Their younger selves, laughing.
Sarah takes the photograph. She doesn't cry. She smiles — small, devastated, real.
Movement IV: Coda (The Signing)
The rain stops. First light enters the diner, replacing the neon glow with something softer.
Sarah opens the manila envelope. She pulls out the papers. Mark watches her hand.
Sarah signs. She slides the papers across. Mark signs. It's done.
They share the last bite of cherry pie. Two forks, one plate. An echo of the beginning.
Sarah stands, puts on her trench coat. Mark stays seated. She walks toward the glass door.
Sarah stops at the door. She turns. One last look at Mark in the booth. Then she walks into the morning light.

VO Stems (2)
Narrator voice — warm, wistful baritone. "The Starlight Diner had been their place once. Tonight, it would be their last."
4 Score Tracks
Piano-led emotional arc matching the four movements: Allegretto (gentle), Accelerando (rising tension), Adagio (aching), Coda (resolution).
Rain Ambience
Continuous rain layer — heavy in Movements I-III, tapering to silence at dawn in Movement IV. Rhythmic, hypnotic, isolating.
Veo 3.1 Native Audio
Coffee pouring, ceramic mug clinks, paper envelope thud, fork on plate, rain on glass, jukebox hum.
